Garters, Garters and More Garters

Bonjour!

Today is such a beautiful day and I hope everyone is enjoying it! Since the Star-Telegram Bridal Show people have been calling about our selection of garters! Also, I had someone ask me what the meaning of the wedding garter is. Wow, I could not tell them right off hand, just that it was a tradition. So now, I have done a little research and this is what I have gathered... not at all what I thought it would be, prepare yourself just a tad.

Reason for the garter toss: In the 14th century, having a piece of the bride's clothing was thought to bring good fortune. In order to obtain a piece of this lucky attire, guests would grab at the wedding dress and tear off pieces of it, leaving the dress in tatters.(OH MY GOODNESS) In order to stop this practice, brides began throwing items at the guests. One of these items was the garter belt. Today, it is usually the groom who removes and tosses the garter to the unmarried men in attendance. It is a symbol which allows single men to share in the fortune (good luck) of the groom who would throw it.

I'm EXTREMELY glad we changed this tradition because we all know that the bride's dream gown must not be destroyed!!! :)

So on to the garters at de ma fille, we have a huge variety that we can order for you. One that caught everyone's eye at the Star- Telegram Bridal Show was our TCU garter.
